USSTAG January Qualifier

USSTAG January Qualifier

January 2010
The US Sailing Center – Sheboygan’s 2010 season kicked off with the US Sailing Team-Alphagraphics (USSTAG) January Qualifier in Key Biscayne, Florida. Seven of the best women’s sailing teams in the country faced off in the most extreme racing conditions. On the line was nothing less than the opportunity to compete in the ISAF Sailing World Cup and a slot on the US Sailing Team.

With temperatures in the 40’s and 50’s, rain, sleet, and steady winds from 16 to 26 knots, weather conditions in southern Florida were reminiscent of Sheboygan or Weymouth, England, site of the 2012 Olympics. These challenging conditions brought out the best in the race committee, umpires, and competitors. In addition, the new Olympic class Elliott 6m sailboats proved extremely agile and fast with downwind speeds exceeding 16 knots.
