MCSA 2009 Match Racing Regatta and Clinic

October 2009
On October 16th, seven college sailing teams traveled to Sheboygan, Wisconsin to participate the first Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association Invitational match racing clinic and regatta.  The event was hosted by the U.S. Sailing Center-Sheboygan.

Northwestern University’s Tod Reynolds and crew, Nick Campbell and Geoff Pedrick, beat out Christine Porter from the University of Wisconsin in the finals to take top honors.  Crewing for Porter were Patrick McMinn and Jeremy McMahon.  The final round featured extremely close racing with Northwestern taking an early lead with 2 wins, but Wisconsin battled back to win the next 2 matches.  Tied 2-2, it came down to who would win the last race.  Northwestern won the start and kept the lead throughout to win the regatta.

The University of Minnesota’s Matt Thompson, Branden Solum, Nick Hovland, and Eric Tobias defeated Ohio State 2-1 to claim third place.

Teams from St. Thomas University, Miami of Ohio, and University of Illinois completed a double round robin to decide positions 5, 6, and 7.

Sheboygan PRO, Rich Reichelsdorfer and International Umpire Don Becker oversaw the 45 races over two days in winds ranging from 8 to 16 knots.
