Richardson 2015 Sheboygan
After the disappointment of not having a regatta in Rochester last year, all eyes were on Sheboygan Yacht Club and their hosting of this year’s Richardson Regatta. The field was set with eight teams ready to do battle. This was whittled down to six due to last minute permitted withdrawals. But these remaining six teams were excited to get things going on the two event only to awake with Saturday morning to a once again persistent five day blow. Winds had been clocked at 30-35 knots with higher gusts the preceding days that built the seas to four to six feet that were cashing the breakwalls. With little hope of getting in any races on Saturday, the officials called off all change of racing. However with Sunday morning dawning with a final relief of wind and waves, the regatta was on. The goal was to race a double round robin and proceed directly to the finals.
With fantastic work by both umpires and Sheboygan RC, the two round robins were completed. Into the finals of best of three, were one time winner Steve Lowery and Peter Holz. Peter Holz wins 2015 Richardson Trophy by beating Lowery in the first two races. The Richardson continues to be a testament to highly skilled and competitive sailor of the Great Lakes.
Congratulations to Peter Holz of the Chicago Yacht Club and LMSRF. Final standings follow:
1 Peter Holz LMSRF
2 Steve Lowery LMSRF
3 David Niemann LMSRF
4 Kurt Taken-Holtze LSYA
